What conditions can Pharmacists now provide consultation for?
The Extended Pharmacy Service initiative provides easy access to prompt advice and treatment including medicines, where appropriate, for seven common conditions. Here is the list of common conditions covered alongside the age criteria:

Oral Rehydration (Under 14 years)
Conjunctivitis (Under 14 years)
Head Lice Treatment
Scabies Treatment
Uncomplicated Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)

Please note other eligibility criteria apply. If you are outside of the criteria a pharmacist may still be able to provide care and advice such as suggesting an over the-counter treatment or if required refer you to another healthcare provider.
Pain and Fever (Under 14 years)
Pain and fever are common in children and are often caused by infections such as colds, flu, or other minor illnesses.
Pharmacists can assess symptoms and provide safe, age-appropriate medicines along with advice on how to manage your child’s symptoms at home and when to seek further care.
Oral Rehydration (Under 14 years)
Vomiting and diarrhoea can lead to dehydration, especially in young children.
Pharmacists can provide oral rehydration solutions and advice to help replace lost fluids and manage symptoms safely at home, while monitoring for signs that need further medical attention.
Conjunctivitis (Under 14 years)
Conjunctivitis (pink eye) is a common eye condition that can cause redness, irritation, discharge, and discomfort.
Pharmacists can assess symptoms and provide appropriate treatment and advice on hygiene to help prevent spreading the infection to others.
Head Lice Treatment
Head lice are small insects that live on the scalp and can cause itching and irritation. They are common in school-aged children and can spread easily between family members.
Pharmacists can recommend effective treatments and provide advice on how to remove lice and eggs, as well as how to prevent reinfestation within the household.
Scabies Treatment
Scabies is a contagious skin condition caused by tiny mites, leading to intense itching and a rash. It can spread easily through close contact.
Pharmacists can assess symptoms, provide treatment, and guide you on how to manage the condition across your household to prevent reinfection.
Uncomplicated Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)
Scabies is a contagious skin condition caused by tiny mites, leading to intense itching and a rash. It can spread easily through close contact. Pharmacists can assess symptoms, provide treatment, and guide you on how to manage the condition across your household to prevent reinfection. Eligibility for Children under 14 years, or family members of an eligible child with the same condition. Urinary tract infections (UTIs) can cause symptoms such as pain when urinating, urgency, and lower abdominal discomfort. Pharmacists can assess symptoms and, if appropriate, provide treatment and advice to help manage the infection quickly, as well as guidance on when to seek further medical care. Eligibility for Women aged 16–65 years.
Emergency Contraception
Emergency contraception can help prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex or contraceptive failure. It is most effective when taken as soon as possible. Pharmacists can provide confidential advice and access to treatment in a private setting, helping you make informed decisions about your care.
