The combined oral contraceptive – without a prescription – is available to women in good health aged 16-39 years of age. Brands available to be purchased without a prescription include Microgynon, Levlen, Brevinor and Norimin. The progesterone only pill or mini-pill – without a prescription – is available to women in good health aged 16-52 years of age. Brands available to be purchased without a prescription include Cerazette, Microlut and Noriday. Our trained staff will ensure privacy for your discussion.
What is the eligibility criteria to get oral contraception from a pharmacist?
Women who have previously been prescribed a contraceptive pill within the last three years and who are (one of the following):
from New Zealand who has run out of her contraception pill
from overseas who has run out of her contraceptive pill
collecting the emergency contraceptive pill and are a previous contraceptive pill user
wanting to restart the contraceptive pill and have used it before
wanting the contraceptive pill after having a baby and have used it before. (If you are breastfeeding you can be given a progesterone-only pill and will be referred back to your doctor).
What can I expect at the pharmacist?
Your pharmacist can give you advice about how to go on the pill (if it is your first time) or if are struggling with any oral contraceptives that you have.

Your age
Your current contraception (if any)
Any ongoing medication
Available options for contraception to review if any fit best for you and your overall health
